Kalysha’s Story

Hi, my name is Kalysha, here is a photo of me and my Mum on 05/06/1992

I love this photo so much! It shows the beginning of my journey, and it shows how much my parents loved me from the very first day I was born.

I asked my mother if she has any photos of when she was pregnant with me, and my heart broke when I heard her reply:

“No, I don’t think so; my tummy was too ugly to take photos.”

Too ugly??
I would give ANYTHING to have a photo of my mum when she was carrying me – I wouldn’t care how she looked, she is ALWAYS beautiful in my eyes.

Little did they know, by taking that photo in hospital, my parents had already started creating a legacy for me – a timeline for me to look back on.
I could quite easily fill my website with hundred of photos of me growing up, I have so many fond memories of my childhood.
This is one of the main reasons I decided to become a newborn photographer – to have the ability to freeze time for new parents, and offer them a way of remembering this moment forever.

THE ART OF NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY

If you carry out a quick Google search, you’ll find lots of photographers that offer maternity and newborn services.

However, you’ll find that most of these photographers also offer family, wedding, pet, event, corporate, and commercial services as well.

What does this mean? It means that newborn photography is just another bullet in their arsenal – they don’t specialise in newborn photography, and for a very good reason: Newborn photography is HARD.

Newborns are one of the most challenging subjects to photograph.

They are so tiny and so fragile, unable to hold their head up, unable to tell you if they’re in an uncomfortable position, unable to tell you what they need (if they’re hungry, if they need winding, if they’re in pain, or if they just want some Mummy cuddles).

WHAT I DO FOR YOU

Most studio portrait sessions last around an hour, whereas newborn sessions require a minimum of 3 hours.

During this time, I don’t just photograph your baby – I rock them, soothe them, (bottle) feed them, burp them, wind them, and clean up their messes (that come out of both ends!).

A single pose can take up to 15 minutes to ease a baby into – I never rush them, nor do I force them into a pose they don’t like. I always put their safety and comfort above “getting the shot”.

YOUR BABY WILL BE SAFE IN MY HANDS

I am not interested in other areas of photography, I focus on one area, and one area alone. Maternity and newborn photography is my PASSION, and I aim to be the BEST.

I have invested extensively in newborn training with some of the world’s top newborn photographers (Elli Cassidy, Ana Brandt, Kelly Brown, and Julia Kelleher, just to name a few) to learn about newborn safety and the best posing techniques.

I am not a a jack-of-all-trades photographer, I am exclusive to maternity and newborn photography – this makes me a SPECIALIST.

Simon’s Story

I’m Simon and as the studio manager, your experience is my main priority.

Kalysha & I understand the importance in delivering excellence, and we strive to ensure you have a first class experience with us.

I have specialised in customer service since the age of 17, so providing service with a smile pretty much runs in my blood.

From the moment you arrive right up till the moment you leave, Kalysha & I will pamper you, spoil you, and make you feel like you’re part of the family.

During your visit, I will be keeping you company, making you drinks, and keeping the snacks topped up. I love to chat, and if you get me started on ice hockey or trains, then you might not hear the end of it!

After the session ends and when you are back at home, I switch into IT mode. Your legacy doesn’t just stop with Kalysha taking the photos. The next stage comes to me, in preserving and securing those memories on our top of the range backup system. From daily, weekly and monthly back ups, software updates and high tech security access, your photos are protected forever.

Although Kalysha and I sometimes have our differences, we work well as a team, complementing each other’s skills. Although sometimes I’m sure the only reason I’m still here is because I make the better cup of tea!
